As a mother myself, the newborn stage was one of the most vulnerable times of my life. When I had my newborn session scheduled two weeks postpartum, I dreaded having to get out of the house. I almost didn’t want to take my son to get his pictures taken because I was so sleep-deprived. I didn’t have the energy to pack the diaper bag let alone get done up for pictures. Looking back, I am so grateful that I decided to go through with it. That newborn stage flew by so quickly. Those photos are the only way I can truly remember how tiny my sweet six-pound baby was.
As a photographer, I realized that mothers shouldn’t have to leave their homes to capture those precious newborn moments. In-home newborn sessions are now my favorite for so many reasons. The convenience of having all your feeding supplies and clothing nearby, the comfort of being in your own space, and the authenticity of capturing this stage of life exactly as it is lived. In-home newborn sessions are truly the best way to preserve the tenderness of this vulnerable season.
My newborn sessions are baby-led, meaning my priority is your baby’s needs. Having your session take place in your home makes it easier to tend to your baby’s needs. If a baby needs a diaper change, you can conveniently change them in your own nursery. No need to pack a diaper bag. When your baby is hungry, you can nurse in your favorite comfy chair or make a bottle in your kitchen. If your other children are distracted, no problem, they can play and take snack breaks during the session. This gives us the option to take our time, making it an enjoyable experience for them as well. The convenience of having all your baby’s needs right next to you makes your newborn session experience overall far more enjoyable, without the added stress that comes with leaving your home at this vulnerable stage.

Similar to my previous points, the convenience of working in your own space makes it a comfortable experience. I understand that being in front of a camera may not come naturally for some. It is my job as your photographer to help you feel relaxed and confident. I can say with certainty that being in your own home also brings another layer of comfort. Allowing you, your newborn, and other children to relax during your session experience. Your session with me will feel like family enjoying time together in your home. I just happen to be there capturing it all.
Important note for moms with toddlers:
In a time of such big life changes, like adding a new sibling to the family, my goal is for them to be comfortable. When I come to your home for a newborn session, it is like I am stepping into your child’s world. Rather than asking them to step out of their comfort zone. I have seen toddlers open up to me much more quickly this way, making it an enjoyable experience for the entire family.

In-home newborn sessions are an intimate and special experience, and this will reflect in the images themselves. Capturing your family in the space that it was created in, is what you will truly cherish when looking back on the images. You do not need a picture-perfect home. In fact, most of the time, the homes that I work in look lived in, and that is what makes the pictures so unique and special. Every time I leave one of those sessions, my heart is so full, knowing I was trusted to be a part of those special moments with your family.

Safety: When I was freshly postpartum, it was the middle of flu season. My number one priority was to keep people away from my baby boy. The nice thing about me coming to you is that you know you are not bringing your baby into a space that many people may have been in before. When I enter your home, the first thing I do is wash my hands, and I always wear a mask to ensure your family is staying safe.
Pets: In-home sessions are perfect for including your pets because they’re already comfortable in their own environment. There’s no added stress of transporting them or worrying about how they’ll behave in a new space. Being at home allows your pets to naturally be part of the moment, creating genuine images that truly reflect your family as it is.

Lighting: If lighting is something you are concerned about, there is no need to fear. I have what I like to call a traveling studio. I come completely prepared for all home lighting scenarios. Whether your home is surrounded by trees, has limited window lighting, or maybe it’s a rainy day—which you know is very common—I have lighting equipment with me and have mastered all lighting scenarios.
