Hi friends, my name is Melisa Thomas, the owner of MelThom Photography based in Bellevue, WA. I’m so happy you’re here. I want to share a bit about who I am and why I photograph motherhood and family the way I do.
I grew up in a home where family and music were at the center of everything. Playing instruments and singing brought us together—my three brothers and I even had our own band, performing at local events.
But what I remember most is the joy on my mother’s face when we played together. For her, it wasn’t just about the music—it was about the memories we were creating as a family.
Now, as a mother myself, I understand that deeply. That’s why, during every session, my goal is to capture families in their element—making memories together. I want it to feel natural, fun, and meaningful—like you’re just spending time with the people you love, while I preserve those real, joyful moments for you to treasure.
Motherhood also comes with its share of challenges, postpartum anxiety, body image struggles, sleep deprivation...trust me, I understand now just how vulnerable this stage of life can feel.
That understanding shapes how I show up for every session. I always prioritize your comfort, your pace, and your story, approaching this season with care and respect for where you are right now.
I became a mother in 2024, and it’s been the most eye-opening experience—one that’s shown me just how much joy life has to offer.
Documenting pregnancy in a way that is personal and grounded—without pressure to perform.
In-home newborn sessions focused on connection, early parenthood, and everyday life with your baby.
Family sessions rooted in real moments and the natural rhythm of life together
My mom taught me the importance of intentionally creating memories. Whether it was walking in the rain, playing at the park, or cooking together. That lesson is at the core of how I approach every session.
I’m not just here to take photos—I’m here to help create meaningful moments with your family. Through natural, playful prompts, I’ll guide you into connection, and while you’re making memories, I’ll capture the little details—the glances, giggles, and in-between moments you’ll want to hold onto.
"You captured us perfectly and it was so fun, it honestly felt like friends hanging out!"
